Pastor Jill Moore 's Letter
Statement from Jill Moore concerning her experience of the night of July 24th 2000 when Leonard's mother asked the church members to pray that Leonard would be found before nightfall.
Around 7pm on the Monday, 24 July 2000, my husband and I received a message to say that Linda had rung asking for prayer for Leonard, who was reported missing in action in East Timor. As a mother my heart went out to her. We rang the prayer request through our prayer chains; to get others praying too.
Dave and I prayed. There was an urgency that Leonard be found before nightfall.
I went to bed that night (9.30 10ish by memory) lay on my stomach, buried my head in my pillow and continued to pray that Leonard would be found. As I was praying, I saw a picture in my mind. I saw a shaft of light coming down through trees (it was quite dark all around). The light shone on the face of a person. The light was so strong the face looked white. It was as if the person was lying on their stomach supported up on their elbows and the face looked up into the light. I was sure it was a sign that Leonard was okay and would be found. I continued to pray with urgency for strength and comfort for him and that he would be found. I went to sleep with a sense of knowing God was Work.
The phone went around 11pm. It was Linda and she told Dave that Leonard had been found dead. I was shocked! I knew what I had seen. But then I though I must have been imagining it and it must have been just wishful thinking. I put the picture out of my mind and our prayers and efforts focused on supporting Linda, Charlie and family.
When I heard of the CSM's experiences I was awestruck. I remembered the picture I had seen while praying. I am now convinced it was God showing me that He heard all the prayers for Leonard that day! I had just misinterpreted the meaning of what I'd seen.
I don't understand why Leonard died there in East Timor. But I do know that God was watching over him and heard the family's prayers that his body be found before nightfall.
I know and love Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Over the years I have experienced Him answering prayers in amazing ways. But this experience has left me in awe of him in an even greater way.

This is the place where they found Leonard's body . When the photo was taken his body was still lying where he fell, between the two soldiers you see looking down at the ground. They guarded him there overnight, before moving him out of the area the next morning.
